Z20LEH Drop-In Oil Baffle Kit

Designed and manufactured by GizFab, our Z20LEH Drop-In Oil Baffle Kit provides improved oil control within the standard sump during hard acceleration, braking and cornering.

Designed primarily for track, competition and high-performance applications, the stainless steel baffle incorporates one-way Viton flaps to help retain oil around the oil pickup while still allowing oil returning to the sump to flow into the pickup area.

The simple drop-in design provides an effective oil-control upgrade without requiring the sump to be permanently modified or welded.

Why Is Oil Control Important?

During normal driving, engine oil collects in the sump where it can be continuously drawn through the oil pickup and circulated around the engine.

Under sustained high-G conditions, however, the oil inside the sump is subjected to the same acceleration, braking and cornering forces as the rest of the vehicle.

This can cause a significant volume of oil to move away from the pickup.

If the pickup becomes temporarily uncovered, the oil pump can begin drawing air instead of a continuous supply of oil.

Even a brief interruption in oil supply at high engine speed and load can result in a reduction in oil pressure at exactly the point where components such as the crankshaft bearings, connecting rod bearings, camshafts and turbocharger require reliable lubrication.

Improved Oil Control

The GizFab baffle divides and controls the available space within the sump, helping restrict how quickly oil can move away from the pickup area.

This is particularly beneficial during:

Rather than attempting to prevent oil movement completely, the baffle is designed to control where and how quickly the oil can move within the sump.

Viton One-Way Flaps

Integrated Viton flaps provide directional control of the oil within the sump.

The flaps allow returning oil to flow towards the pickup area while helping restrict oil from rapidly escaping in the opposite direction when the vehicle is subjected to acceleration, braking or cornering forces.

This effectively helps retain a greater volume of available oil around the pickup during demanding driving conditions.

Viton was selected for its suitability in an environment involving hot engine oil and elevated temperatures.

Helps Reduce Windage

The baffle also helps control excessive oil movement within the sump.

Keeping the oil better contained can help reduce unnecessary interaction between the rotating crankshaft assembly and uncontrolled oil within the sump, particularly at higher engine speeds.

Drop-In Installation

One of the main advantages of our design is its drop-in construction.

There is no requirement to permanently weld the baffle into the sump, making installation considerably more straightforward than traditional fabricated sump baffles.

The sump must still be removed from the engine for installation.

2x Sump Gaskets

These are not included with the baffle kit and must be sourced separately.

We recommend using new, good-quality gaskets during installation rather than attempting to reuse previously compressed sealing components.

⚠️ IMPORTANT ENGINE COMPATIBILITY

This baffle has been designed specifically around the sump and oil pickup arrangement used on the:

Z20LEH Engine

Other Z20 Engines

The baffle is NOT directly compatible with Z20 engine variants retaining their factory balance shaft assembly.

To use this baffle with another compatible Z20-based engine, the balance shaft assembly must be removed and the engine converted to use a Z20LEH-style oil pickup arrangement.

Do not attempt to force or modify the baffle around the original balance shaft assembly.

Where carrying out a balance shaft delete or converting another Z20 engine to the Z20LEH oiling arrangement, the installer is responsible for ensuring that all associated components and modifications are appropriate for the particular engine.

Professional Installation Recommended

Although the baffle itself uses a straightforward drop-in design, installation requires removal and resealing of the engine sump.

Installation should therefore be carried out by a suitably qualified technician.

During installation:

• Follow the Supplied Fitting Instructions
• Ensure the Sump is Thoroughly Clean
• Check the Oil Pickup & O-Ring/Seal Condition
• Ensure the Viton Flaps Move Freely
• Confirm the Baffle is Correctly Seated
• Use New Sump Gaskets
• Ensure No Sealant or Debris Can Enter the Oil System
• Refill with the Correct Grade & Quantity of Engine Oil
• Confirm Correct Oil Pressure Before Driving the Vehicle

The engine should not be operated if abnormal oil pressure or oil-pressure warnings are present following installation.

Important - Not a Guarantee Against Oil Starvation

An upgraded sump baffle is an additional oil-control measure. It cannot guarantee that oil starvation will never occur.

Oil control is affected by numerous factors including oil level, oil condition, tyre grip, suspension setup, circuit layout, sustained G-force, engine speed and the condition of the engine's lubrication system.

Vehicles operating under particularly demanding competition conditions may require additional oil-control measures.

Maintaining the correct engine oil level remains essential regardless of whether a sump baffle is fitted.

Motorsport & Performance Use

This product has been developed primarily for track, competition and high-performance applications where the engine may regularly experience acceleration, braking and cornering forces beyond those normally encountered during everyday driving.

As with any competition vehicle, the engine's oil level and oil pressure should be regularly monitored.

12-Month Warranty*

This product is warranted to the original purchaser against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 12 months from purchase.

Our obligation under this warranty is limited to repair or replacement, at our discretion, where inspection confirms a manufacturing or material defect.

The warranty does not cover normal deterioration of the Viton flaps, incorrect installation, modification, incorrect engine compatibility, damage resulting from contact with internal engine components, contamination, inadequate oil level, incorrect oil, oil starvation or failure of another component within the engine's lubrication system.

Fitment of this product does not constitute a guarantee against oil starvation or subsequent engine damage. Engine condition, oil level and the suitability of the complete lubrication system remain the responsibility of the vehicle owner and installer.
