Knockhill Racing Circuit, located near Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland, is Scotland’s national motorsport centre — a compact but wildly demanding circuit full of character. It opened in 1974 and has since become one of the UK’s most popular venues because its short layout (about 1.27 miles / 2.09 km on the international configuration) and dramatic elevation changes make every lap intense. Expect steep climbs, sudden drops, blind crests and off-camber corners that punish anything less than precision — especially in the Racing Hondas Championship, where the tight battles demand both aggression and finesse. On Saturday 27 September, the circuit plays host to two major showcases: the return of Time Attack — featuring ultra-high performance machines (including 1000+ hp beasts in the Pro class) going after perfect lap times, and the Racing Hondas Championship, one of the UK’s top one-make series, making its Knockhill debut north of the border. The Guidelines for This Build: Sleeper! From the outside, you’d never guess what’s lurking beneath. At first glance, it looks like something your Nan would drive to the supermarket, holding up traffic at 35mph in a 60 zone when you’re already late for an appointment… or maybe like the trusty runabout your local boss man uses to deliver kebabs on a Friday night. But look closer, and a few details give the game away: 4-pot Wilwoods up front, a rear disc conversion, a radiator peeking through the grille, and maybe even the gear knob if you know what you’re looking at. Under the bonnet? A Honda Civic Type-R K20A2 engine, producing 220+ HP, mated to a slick 6-speed manual gearbox. I wanted to keep the engine bay looking OEM+, so I retained the factory battery tray and fuse boxes with just a little trimming. A 3” satin black powder-coated intake ties everything together with a subtle, factory-like finish. Cooling is handled by a custom radiator neatly tucked between the slam panel and engine, paired with a SPAL fan. This setup even allowed me to keep the OEM bonnet catch—thanks to the K20A2 intake manifold, which just cleared the panel after some careful trimming. Down below the battery, an electro-hydro power steering pump keeps daily driving civilised. For the shifter, I moved away from the typical K-swap gear towers and went with a Hybrid Racing underfloor-mounted unit and their cables. The result? A beautifully notchy yet silky-smooth shift feel. Hidden under the OEM plastics and gaiter (not shown in photos), it keeps the sleeper vibe intact while also allowing perfect cable routing under the floorpan straight to the gearbox. Suspension and chassis have been treated too, with a full lineup of GizFab goodies: coilovers, rear disc conversion, trailing arms, panhard rod, and a complete bracing kit. The car is now heading back to the customer for wiring to be completed, and I can’t wait to see it running in the next few months. This build has been an absolute blast—one of those projects that teaches you a ton along the way. I’ve now got a real appreciation for what it takes to K-swap a K11 properly.
